About Novela
Novela builds marketing simulations used by universities including Columbia, Northwestern Kellogg, Oxford and Imperial College. Students practise on realistic versions of platforms like Google Ads, Meta and LinkedIn — making real decisions and living with the consequences — because AI has made marketing judgement, not button-pushing, the skill that matters.
We are a two-founder company: profitable, growing quickly, and our simulations now run in classrooms at more than fifty universities. You would be our first employee.
The role
You will own the operational backbone of the business across marketing execution and customer operations, working directly with the co-founder and CEO.
We’re a three-person company, so AI and automation are how a small team does the work of a much larger one. You’ll be expected to use AI well, not just dabble.
What you'll own
Marketing and growth:
Email marketing — building and sending campaigns and our newsletter to marketing professors.
Social media — scheduling and posting across our channels.
Lead generation — researching professors and programmes, building lists, running outreach and qualifying replies.
Webinars — organising and running them end to end.
Customer operations:
Class launches — getting every professor fully set up with logins, materials and briefings before their course goes live.
First-line support — fielding routine questions from professors and students.
Renewals and contracts — tracking what's due, getting agreements out and signed.
CRM — keeping HubSpot accurate and useful.
What we're looking for
A self-starter. You act without being asked: you spot the gap and you fix it.
Fluent with AI and automation — not “I’ve used ChatGPT,” but reaching for tools like Cowork by default to draft, research and automate the repetitive work, and knowing where it breaks and checking its output. 1–3 years in a fast-moving environment — a startup, agency or similar — in a coordination, marketing or operations role.
Organised to a fault, with strong written English — you will be writing to professors from month one.
Quick with tools. We use Claude Cowork, HubSpot, Zoho and the usual schedulers.
An education, edtech or marketing background helps, but isn’t required. Aptitude beats CV.
Where the role goes
The first six months are about taking complete ownership of the operations above. From there the path is into the more creative work: improving our marketing content, shaping campaigns, and growing your responsibilities as fast as you can take things on. First hires at companies our size get more ownership in a year than most roles offer in three.
Package
£32,000–£38,000 depending on experience.
Share options — early-employee ownership in a profitable company.
Remote-first (UK), with a few days a month working together in London.
Start early August 2026 — our autumn term is the busy season and we want you trained up before it hits.
You must have the right to work in the UK. As a small company, we’re not able to offer visa sponsorship.
How to apply
No cover letters. Send your CV and, in a few lines, two things: one idea you’d try in your first few weeks to help us reach more marketing professors, and how you’d use AI to do it.
Email clark@novela.academy with “Growth & Operations Coordinator” in the subject line.
We move fast: short phone calls the same week, a brief practical task for shortlisted candidates, and a final conversation in early July.
